How many realize that the religious right creationists used their early power to persecute evolutionists?

For many many years (well into the 20th century) the religious right held sway and it was illegal to teach evolution in the schools. (Google Scopes monkey trial). Upon appeals Scopes was vindicated and the creationists were no longer allowed to persecute the evolutionists and their ideas. Much much later in the twentieth century in a complete reversal of the scopes trial creationism being taught in science cl was put on trial, found wanting in the original trial, and that verdict upheld by the supremes.
