Xmen origins wolverine movie question?

i was watching a Video on youtube it was hugh jackman on jimmy kimmel and he said that the actor dougray scott was supposed to play wolverine. but why would hugh jackman have to re audition for the part if he already played it before? shouldnt it have automatically been him for the part? thanks
